There are a lot of Japanese traditional sweets shops from Edo period in Kuwana city.
Edo Shogunate focused on maintaining traffic, and built a station inn along an important kaido.
Kuwana city flourished as 42nd station inn of Tokaido designated in 1601.
After Edo period, Kuwana raised reputation with its Japanese confectionery tasted by daimyos (Japanese feudal lord)and tourists to Ise.
One of the representative sweets is Yasunaga mochi which has red bean paste inside of thin and long rice cake. It is very flavorful and loved by a lot of people.
