On March 3, Hinamatsuri, or Hina Festival is celebrated in Japan, the annual girls day. It is a long standing tradition to decorate the houses and shops with a special set of ""Hina Dolls"" for the occasion.
From Feb. 4 to March 5, ""Ohinasama Meguri in Futami"", (or ""Hina Dolls Tour"") is held in Futami, Mie prefecture. Around Meoto-Iwa Omotesando main thoroughfare, about 6000 Hina dolls are displayed in 90 locations, along with spring flowers and related traditional decorations.
At Hinjitsukan (Nation's important cultural property), antique Hina dolls, such as ""Kyohobina"" are displayed. Their faces are quite particular, resembling those of noh masks. You will find many creative style of hina dolls and settings as you take a tour around participating shops and public establishments, and may be surprised at the variety. Many themed events are held during this period. Come and discover the colorful world of Hina Festival and its dolls!
