Iwami Ginzan (silver mine) located in the center of Shimane prefecture. This silver mine was once known to the world as a place which produced the equivalent of one-third of the world’s silver. This silver distribution made a huge influence on the exchange of cultures and economics of that time. People lived coexisting nature while mining silver, so the nature surrounding the silver mine still remains. In recognition of such value, Iwami Ginzan was certified as a World Natural Heritage site in 2007.
Although it was crowded soon after the recognition, it is now getting quieter and you can enjoy the old townscape of the Iwami Ginzan where the atmosphere of that time remains.
