“Originator of Surugaya” is a Japanese confectionary and founded at Kyoto Fushimi in 1461.
In the Edo era, Tokugawa Ieyasu’s 10th son, the first lord in Kishu, Tokugawa Yoshinobu had loved the sweets from Surugaya and moved the store to Kishu (currently Wakayama) when he started his Kishu Tokugawa Clan.
The factory opened in 2018 and has a fashionable cafe and offers the tours of the production line. You can purchase sweets that are made only at Ogura branch.
