Katsuyama Sagicho Matsuri Festival has a history of about 300 years. On Last Saturday and Sunday of February, in the city of Katsuyama, a group of adults and child who wear Red kimono dance with the local music of Taiko drums, shamisen, Japanese traditional pipes and bells.
This is the uniqueness of Katsuyama Sagicho which you can not see anywhere in Japan.
In the evening of Sunday, the preparation for Dondo-Yaki, burning of New Year's gate decorations is started. All shintai, an object of worship housed in a Shinto shrine and believed to contain the spirit of a deity are gathered to Benten-Gawara where famous for Benten Cherry Blossom.
At 20:30 sacred flame is fired at Shinmei Shrine. Then it curried to Benten-Gawara Dondo-Yaki Place at 21:00 and light up with the sign of a signal fire.
The festival finale is ended up with beauty of burning fire and it shine in the snow season's sky.
