These Flanders Bells (carillon bells) were gifted to Itami by its international sister city of Hasselt, Belgium, in 1990 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Itami city and the 5th anniversary of the friendship between the cities.
Itami built a commemorative tower on the western side of JR Itami station, creating a European style park for residents to enjoy. In the top of the tower is the belfry, which houses 43 bells of different sizes. These cover four octaves and are operated manually using batons on a keyboard.
The tower is also fitted with lights, illuminating the area around the JR station attractively in the evenings.
We will hold the next concert on October 21st (to coincide with the Itami Downtown Bar event), allowing locals, visitors, and passers-by the opportunity to enjoy this traditional Belgian music form.
Day and time: July 17th (Sat.) 2017, 12:00 – 12:30
Concerts will also be held later this year in November and December
