Every autumn, the Itami city center gets moving for the Itami Wasshoi Dance Festival. From hula dance to cheerleading, hip-hop routines to Japanese taiko performances, troops of all styles (and ages) will entertain the public at venues all around Itami town center.
Organized by an executive committee made up mostly of university students, Itami Wasshoi is now in its 16th year. The cores aims of the event are to bring new energy to the city center, promote an active and healthy lifestyle among young people, and to provide a public forum for showcasing new cultural works. This year, we will also hold an exhibition of photographs and local products from the Kumamoto area, with the hope of raising awareness and support for the 2016 earthquake recovery efforts (venue: Itami Hall).
