This annual event started life in 1989 as ‘Itami Craft Exhibition’, and in 1998 grew into a larger open competition and became ‘Itami International Craft Exhibition’. Each year the theme alternates between jewellery and sake ware. This year’s theme was ‘Jewellery’, and we received submissions from a total of 346 artists (including 148 from abroad). Of these, 367 pieces by 97 artists (including 62 from abroad) were selected for exhibition.

This year we are displaying a great number of pieces that combine a deep observation on the body, nature, and the social world, with technical exploration into the range of possibilities of form and shape unique to jewellery. Each item shows something of the artist’s conceptual values and imaginative world, and we hope visitors to the exhibition will enjoy discovering the vast diversity of expression on display.
