The Ise Shima area is famous as a treasure of seafood because it is surrounded by ocean. However, in fact, not only the seafood but also a treasure of food from the mountains, because of the warm climate throughout the year as well as long sunshine hours. Here, we introduce Shima's food from the countryside.
One is Shima's speciality strawberry "Red Pearl". "Red pearl" is a large, red in the centre, perfect balance of sweetness and sourness, and is a high-grade strawberry. The highest price is about 250 yen each strawberry. There are farms where you can pick Red Pearl and all you can eat. Admission fee is about 1,500 yen, so if you eat 10 strawberries, the cost evens out!
The other one is "Nambari-Melon", a speciality of the Nambari area in Shima City. This melon is purchased by hotels and/or as a gift from all over Japan. "Kawaguchi Farm" located in Nambari area produces delicious melons all year round. The melon with high sugar content can be tasted fresh, the Kawaguchi Farm also offers confectionary using the Nambari-Melon.
