The Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route connects the prefectures of Toyama and Nagano. Its most popular point to visit during spring time is Yuki-no-Otani, a massive solid wall of snow located in Murodo, at an altitude of 2540m - the route’s highest point. From the 16th of April, the snow wall itself is opened to the public.
Murodo has some of the heaviest snowfall in the world, and Yuki-no-Otani is formed by its immense snowdrift. This year’s wall stretches as high as 17 metres!
This year also marks the 25th anniversary of Yuki-no-Otani’s opening, and a two-stage special event will be taking place accordingly.
