An officially registered heritage of Japan, the Manyokan museum is home to the famous ‘manyoshu’ writings – the oldest existing collection of Japanese ‘waka’ poetry, composed centuries ago in the Waka-no-Ura Bay area. The museum also contains a wide variety of artifacts and research carried out by poets and scholars, exploring the historical relationship between the manyoshu writings and Wakayama.
Visitors can participate in a tour during which a variety of stage productions can be enjoyed, as well as a gallery exhibition allowing one to immerse oneself fully within the ancient world of Japanese poetry.
