Coming in to view on the way past Oami Onsen, Fukuwata Onsen is the former site of the imperial villa that was dedicated to the Emperor Taisho (reigned 1912 – 1926) by the Viscount. Mishima Michitsune.
In the present day, the entrance part of the villa where the throne stood has been reconstructed, remaining nowadays as the Emperor’s Memorial Park.
Additionally, at the local visitors’ centre, detailed information is available regarding Shiobara’s charming natural surroundings - the ‘Noda-wa’ (‘Noda Rock’) monolith being an especially popular choice for rock climbing/bouldering, making Fukuwata Onsen an ideal place to come and enjoy an authentic Japanese onsen experience amid the soothing flow of the nearby river.
